To present my portfolio for my first year College Composition course I have designed an interactive website for anyone that wishes to visit the site. The decision leading to the creation of this website unfolded unexpectedly but it is a product I am proud of and I feel demonstrates my multi-faceted year as a first year student at Warren Wilson College. During the few weeks leading up to assembling of a portfolio I was looking for a way to synthesize my year either visually or through words. I feel this final product does both through the writings I have selected to share and the pictures I have incorporated into the site. From the start of fall semester to the end of term four I have experienced and participated in many areas of Wilson all of which I have not captured on this website. However, I feel what I have presented creates an engaging and colorful snapshot of a year exploding with activity, learning, and growth. I hope the readers leave with a sense of inspiration and greater understanding of what my first year of college at Wilson was like.
In terms of my required project I have provided two academic writings from my College Composition course and extra writings on Wilson sampled from my personal blog. The first of the two academic writings I chose is my standpoint essay from the beginning of the course which can be found under the "Portfolio" drop down tab labeled "Exploring Mysteries". The essay is accompanied by a picture of stain glass from a Swedenborgian cathedral in Bryn Athyn, PA. I visited the cathedral while on my Interfaith Spring Break Trip and I feel that particular portion of stain glass represents my current relationship with religion and spirituality--topics heavily covered in almost all of my writings this semester. The second academic writing I chose to include in my portfolio is my Examining Tensions essay written as a reflection at the end of the course. It can also be found under the "Portfolio" tab labeled "Examining Tensions". I feel this piece provides a powerful look into my experience within the context of my composition course this semester, is a strong sample of my writing, and a further extension of my standpoint. The "Other Writings" tabs provides blog posts I have written over the course of this school year about my time Wilson. These writings act to diversify the subject and tone of the other pieces presented.
